Becky leads Battery’s marketing program, overseeing firm branding, communications, content and events. She also works closely with Battery’s portfolio companies to provide both strategic and tactical PR counsel. Becky joined the firm in 2013 after running her own strategic-communications practice providing branding, positioning and media-related services to Silicon Valley investment firms and high-tech startups.
Prior to that Becky worked for many years as a business journalist, including ten years at the Wall Street Journal in its New York, San Francisco and Hong Kong bureaus. She covered topics including Wall Street, technology and Asian economics and trade. At the Journal, Becky’s reporting was honored by groups including Amnesty International, the Newswomen’s Club of New York and the American Association of University Professors. She was a finalist for the Gerald Loeb Award in 2007. After leaving the Journal, Becky joined Forbes as a senior editor, where she specialized in writing about technology and venture capital. Previously she wrote for the Dow Jones News Service and the Indianapolis Star, where she was a Pulliam Fellow.
Becky graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, where she earned a degree in international politics. Currently she serves on the executive committee of the National Venture Capital Association’s Strategic Communications group and is a member of the Site Council at Duveneck Elementary School in Palo Alto, CA.
