Five Questions in Five Minutes with the CEO of Enviance

Portfolio Spotlight: Amy Stelling, CEO of Enviance

Each month, Battery highlights a different portfolio-company CEO with our “Five Questions in Five Minutes” feature, showcasing the diversity of the Battery portfolio across investment stages, sectors and geographies.

What does your company do in 10 words or less?

Cloud software provider that helps solve complex EH&S (environmental, health and safety) problems

What is your favorite piece of management/leadership advice?

Get to know your team – what they do, what inspires them, where they think your organization can improve.

What’s the most under-rated trend in technology, in your opinion?

The rise of information system (IS) professionals in departments outside of IT that collaboratively work to solve departmental system needs. These people are business analysts, software-implementation program managers, and integration specialists that are entrenched with the business operations, and they provide expertise on how to implement feature-rich solutions. I am seeing this trend slowly on the rise and hope to see it accelerate so more businesses can meet their enterprise-wide digitalization goals and Industry 4.0 (or automation and data exchange) initiatives.

What Enviance accomplishment in the last 12 months are you most proud of?

I am most proud of our steadfast commitment to helping businesses improve their environmental, health and safety programs by keeping our customers’ goals at the heart of our initiatives. This includes everything from the steady release of features in our SaaS environment that keep up with ever-changing EHS requirements, to embracing new web-app technologies for our mobile solution, to our team that combines traditional customer success, support and services departments into a small, dedicated workforce for the customer. This past year, we did not take our eye off this and, for that, I’m very proud.

BONUS QUESTION: What is your favorite summer memory from growing up?

My two sisters and I spent weeks one summer planning and prepping for a backyard game of the 80’s gameshow Double Dare.  After a ton of planning, we hosted a day of fun for our friends.  Huge piles of whipping cream to slide through, vats of cooked spaghetti to dig in and cracked eggs over our friends’ heads. It was a blast and a memory I’ll never forget.
