Amazon’s Werner Vogels Headlines Second Annual CloudNY Conference

The depth and continuing vibrancy of the cloud-software industry was on display earlier this month at the second-annual CloudNY conference for cloud founders and CEOs—an event that drew nearly 150 executives and offered critical insights for scaling cloud businesses.

The invite-only event, organized by Battery Ventures and FirstMark Capital and held in lower Manhattan, was designed to allow proven cloud leaders to network with each other and share management and operational lessons on topics including nailing product-market fit, expanding internationally, building robust cloud brands and taking a mature company public, among others.

Speakers at the daylong conference came from iconic companies across industries and geographies. Excluding Amazon, the combined market capitalization of the speakers’ companies totaled $80 billion. Speakers included:

  • Jeff Lawson, the CEO of Twilio;
  • Mikkel Svane, the CEO of Zendesk;
  • Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon;
  • Dev Ittycheria, the president and CEO of MongoDB;
  • Jennifer Tejada, the CEO of PagerDuty;
  • Jay Simons, the president of Atlassian;
  • Rob Bernshteyn, the CEO of Coupa;
  • Keri Gohman, president, Americas of Xero; and
  • Olivier Pomel, the CEO and co-founder of Datadog.

At the event, Battery’s Neeraj Agrawal and Logan Bartlett unveiled their Software 2018 report, detailing high-level trends in the software industry, and Agrawal discussed the most recent Battery Ventures/Glassdoor* Highest Rated Cloud Computing Companies to Work For lists, which were made public on May 2. Team members from Battery and FirstMark also rang the closing bell at Nasdaq on May 2.

Outside sponsors of the conference this year included Cooley, Amazon Web Services, Nadsaq, Qatalyst Partners and TriplePoint Capital. Check out the full recap from the CloudNY Twitter stream here.
