Senior Associate John joined Battery in 2005 as a Senior Associate and Kauffman Fellow, focusing on nanotechnology, advanced materials and clean technology. He is currently involved with portfolio companies Lion Cells, Nanoconduction, and Stonybrook Purification. Prior to Battery, John held roles with venture firms Draper Fisher Jurvetson New England and Navigator Technology Ventures, as well as technology companies Luminus Devices and Passport Systems. In these positions, he was charged with sourcing early-stage nanotech and IT investments and identifying and capitalizing on sustainable market opportunities. Earlier, John was Director of Product Development for biotech firm Surface Logix, where he created, led and grew its nanotechnology spin-off, EM Logix. He has also applied his materials science expertise to commercialize advanced materials technologies as a Staff Scientist for Raychem Corporation, a division of Tyco Electronics, and is the holder of two U.S. patents. John graduated from MIT with a BS in Physics and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering. During his doctoral studies, John conducted pioneering research in nanotechnology and discovered a new class of self-assembled polymer. John also has an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and remains actively involved as a mentor for the esteemed MIT $50K Entrepreneurship Competition. |
